Labourer's body found in cooling tank

The body of a 21-year-old man, who was reported missing on January 10, was found inside the Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) premises in Manali on Sunday night.

CHENNAI: The body of a 21-year-old man, who was reported missing on January 10, was found inside the Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) premises in Manali on Sunday night. Murugan, a daily wage labourer, was found dead inside the cooling tank of CPCL by Manali police officials who were investigating into his disappearance.
According to police, Jayalakshmi (40) and Elumalai (43) had filed a complaint on January 10 saying that their son Murugan, who had gone for work a day earlier, had not returned home.

Manali police registered a case of man-missing and were investigating into the matter. Police officials, who checked the CPCL premises on Sunday evening found Murugan's lifeless body lying in the tank.
The body was sent to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. "The body had not decomposed since he had fallen into the cooling tank. We suspect that he might have slipped and fallen inside. His slippers was found below the tank and the shirt that he had left in the changing room remained there," a police official said.
A senior official at CPCL, who did not want to be named, said, "We were not informed about the person's disappearance. As soon as we got the information, we immediately ran a check and found the person inside. The dead person was hired as a labourer and he was not supposed to be near the cooling tank."
Earlier, on December 12, a 25-year-old man died of suffocation after he slipped and fell into a hole inside the CPCL premises.
